At least half a dozen in yard with a couple of grackles. Pictures don't show it well but they had a bit of rusty colour under their beak.

I think the breast has too many stripes to be any sparrow. And if they are hanging around with grackles they are probably some sort of blackbird, so my best guess is immature red-winged blackbirds. They have a rusty chin and lots of belly stripes.

That's definitely it, Chris. They were too big to be sparrows too.
